When I realized my reluctance to confront people, I had left teaching for a licensing job with the state. I went into businesses and found violations. I had to tell the owners what they were doing wrong. It was unbelievable to me to do this, but I wanted to job. I felt I was meant to do it. I became very good at handling difficult people, because I could say negative things in a more positive way. I got a reputation for that ability. My manager started sending me to problem places all over the state. I could do the job when others could not.
