We come back to their house to have some dinner. All three of us Anglos are laughing and chatting but my friend’s husband doesn’t join in. I can feel the tension towards all of us. At some point I was on my way outside and didn’t realize there was a screen door to the sliding door and I walked into the screen door and put it off its hinge. Easily corrected. When it was getting dark my friend’s husband went outside to build and light the outdoor fireplace. Great fun. We all troop out there to enjoy talk and cocktails.
