With ease, I lied my way through that meeting with the guidance counselor. I painted the perfect picture of a polite, happy, passionate, driven student (I had the grades to prove it). She believed me wholeheartedly. I know this because I decided it was in my best interest to tell the guidance counselor, and so I arranged another meeting with her and came clean. Well, mostly - I still lied a good bit to protect myself (I don’t like being vulnerable). The subject of lying came up and she said she didn’t have a clue I was lying - and this was someone trained to get kids to open up to her.
