Places like MIT are outliers, and of course, Asia is a culture of its own. For most students at most US colleges and universities, the best students learn how to study smart - in other words, the quality of tie spent studying matters as much or more than does the quantity of time spent studying. They learn to become very efficient and make the best use of their time. Do understand, this does not mean they get away with little study time - they must still devote a lot of time to study. It is not a straight linear relationship, though, where X hours equals a C, 2X hours equals a B, and 3X hours equals an A.
